**Apple Watch for kids: Schooltime mode, no iPhone required**

?quality=82&strip=all&w=1600

Apple Watch for kids is something parents are embracing more and more. The _New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/01/technology/apple-watch-children-kids.html)_ ran a story last year about Apple Watch adoption among children as young as five. Parents are finding the Apple Watch more appropriate for kids wanting smartphones.

The Apple Watch gives kids a way to stay in touch with parents, share location, and build responsibility without the full cost and complexity of a smartphone. As kids going back to school, it may be time to consider adding more connectivity without the commitment of a smartphone.

**Apple stopped MacBook imports to India, after sudden license announcement [U]**

?quality=82&strip=all&w=1500

_Update: Bloomberg (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-08-04/apple-samsung-halt-india-laptop-imports-after-sudden-curbs?in_source=embedded-checkout-banner&leadSource=uverify%20wall) today reports that both Apple and Samsung have responded to the sudden announcement by halting laptop imports into India. This is likely to be a temporary pause until a license is issued, but there’s no way to know how long this may take._

A new policy announced today means that Macs (https://9to5mac.com/guides/mac/) and iPad (https://9to5mac.com/guides/ipad/) imports to India (https://9to5mac.com/guides/india/) will require a license. The policy takes “immediate effect.”

The move appears to be part of the country’s Made in India strategy, which uses a carrot-and-stick approach to encourage brands to set up local manufacturing plants for their products …

A new supply chain report today isn’t specific on the details, but reading between the lines does seem to point to a new Sony tech that roughly doubles the low-light sensitivity …
