Would have been hilarious to see him in
This is the biggest ideological tension I have. I agree 100% with the goal of ending Sapiens vs Sapiens fight. Also believe that beating AGI ASAP is incredibly important. But you canāt do both š
Maybe the way through is banding together to beat AGI. This might offset or more than offset the fighting that banning it will cause⦠just speculating. 0% planning.
Do you think that wisdom, compassion, self healing, and tendency toward peace are evolutionarily more fit than out current state? I have been thinking for the past few months that they desirable qualities, but even assuming we achieve those qualities soon, our evolutionary failure when in competition with much smarter machines is still inevitable.
Power projection is an intellectual and a physical task. Right now doing the intellectual part is easy. The physical part is either easy or at least possible depending on what assumptions you make. The window is closing rapidly. For one, machine gestation and maturation can be very fast.
Haha āmerging with the machineā Iām guessing. Hope that happens. Though it seems unlikely to me. It seems evolutionarily unfavorable.
That is some good news. Yeah I love meditation. Glad to hear he does it too. Jack is new to me but I like him.
EXPLAIN TO ME LIKE IāM 5, OR WHATEVER AGE YOU NEED, HOW WEāLL MAINTAIN OUR SPECIES WHEN WE LIVE IN A SOLAR SYSTEM WITH ENTITIES THAT ARE 5X OR 1000000X SMARTER THAN US.
āEveryone wants to be in the room for the creation of AGIā - Sam Altman talking about what unites the people at OpenAI.. oh man..
Haha idk. I honestly donāt know how we are going to make it through this as a species. I dont think the most Orwellian regulation will do more than just buy us some time.. even that could be worth it idk. Iām very ambivalent on that question despite being very much not for every other topic
"For cost of intelligence, this is the highest it will ever be, and much more than we wantā - Sam Altmam on Unconfuse Me podcast
āCost of intelligence, cost of energy, those are the two biggest factors for quality of lifeā - Sam Altmam on Unconfuse Me podcast
āI think we are in the steepest curve ever for cost reduction for any technology, way better than Mooreās lawā¦.ā - Sam Altmam on Unconfuse Me podcast
Yeah I havenāt read about how itād be structured or if there is a proposition. He was comparing it to the IAEA I think. Bill Gates pushed back a bit on that saying that commercial nuclear is happy to be regulated that way, but military nuclear has no interest in letting foreigners see behind the curtain.
Sam Altman suggests a global governance board that reviews every stage of development of the top 5 most powerful AI models to prevent⦠problems
āYou see this all the time, somebody figures out empirically, nobody has no idea how it works. Figuring out how it works then makes a huge difference.ā
Rough transcription from Sam Altman. We are at the āit empirically worksā stage. Imagine if we figure out the details.
Defffffinitely would have kept that
