it is not my idea but i agree with it - we need a searchable image database similar to GIPHY because it is now impossible to find any images using google image search.

i tried to find an image of an "ugly feminist" and using google images and it's about as hopeless as searching for "white children" on there. that search engine is censored to death.

we should be able to link to an image already in database instead of keeping them on our hard drives and uploading a new copy every time we post.

pretty sure half of all the storage capacity of all the fediverse servers is just pictures of Ryan Gosling - we can do better !

i have another system with 64 GB but both systems only use about 14 GB or so, which means 16 GB would definitely be too tight but 32 GB enough for the next 2 or 3 years IF you have the option to upgrade after that 3 years or so.

as for video memory my system with RTX4080 16GB is using about 5GB video memory in just normal heavy use ( google maps 3D, photoshop, youtube, all open simultaneously but no games running ). i would put 12 GB video ram as bare minimum for a new system.

when i upgraded from 16GB to 32GB ram my Photoshop got much more responsive. it used to be slow to start and slow to open new images, but with more ram it is noticeably smoother.

16GB is an absolute no-no.

i had no computer until i came to America around my 15th birthday ... i played video games heavily for like a year then lost interest and quit ...

every time i built a new PC i put in a gaming GPU just in case i would play some games but never did ...

until my last build about a year ago with RTX 4080 and a 75" 8K Sony Z9J screen ... somehow Fortnite was playable in 8K resolution with Ray Tracing enabled and i found the battle royale concept appealing because i had just watched Hunger Games at the time ... suddenly i started playing again and would be playing basically all day - more hours per day than i played when i was 15 ...

then after a few months i started getting severely annoyed by unrealistic physics - like the ability to turn mid-jump which is of course 100% impossible because while mid-air there is nothing to exert force against. when i started playing Fortnite i simply didn't use abilities that were outside of what was physically possible, but as i started getting more competitive i had to use every tool available to me to win and that meant spending more and more time breaking the laws of physics which i couldn't stand doing ...

so then i tried PUBG and what happened is within 1 day of playing PUBG i knew i would never play Fortnite again because it was an order of magnitude more realistic in terms of physics ... but also it was a boring game that was very slow paced with few kills compared to Fortnite ...

in fortnite you had a lot of retarded bots you basically just used for shooting practice but in PUBG there were no bots and players weren't 12 year old idiots so they were all hiding in some ditches waiting to kill you with a single bullet to the head so you would play for like 15 minutes with nothing happening then be like BAM you're dead ... which is of course infinitely more realistic than Fortnite but also infinitely less fun...

long story short i only played PUBG for about 2 weeks before quitting ... and haven't played anything since

so i played for one year when i was 15 ...

and for like 3 months last year ...

and that's it. i can't stay interested in games for longer.

i was also getting annoyed that in PUBG bullets don't seem to have any drop.
