Technological optimism in current dark age.

I’m jelly. Love Tokyo. Haven’t been there since early 2020s.

You are right.

Still in such a hostile environment being targeted by crackers while being bombarded by cosmic EMPs I’d still insist the failure would be lightning’s and not the node runner.

Hopefully by the time lightning becomes such a target ECC memory would be a common thing. I heard it already started on DDR5 where they had to add some error correction due to increase in data density.

From the project page https://community.milkv.io/t/introducing-the-milk-v-oasis-with-sg2380-a-revolutionary-risc-v-desktop-experience/780

> Memory and Computation: With a vast memory capacity (up to 64GB) and over 20 TOPS@INT8 computational strength, SG2380 effortlessly runs large-scale LLMs like LLaMA-65B, bypassing the need for multiple Nvidia or AMD accelerator cards.

Thats a big claim. I’m pretty sure it runs but what’s the context for ā€œeffortlesslyā€ here? Memory aside how fast does it run the thing? nostr:note1s2j45jxqqyvdhzral4gagz9mj83edtcy6pm8d73knjhqcr5wn7cqusp6ux

Oh boy. Without fail the discussion will degrade to environmental hysterics and how $random_shitcoin is better. Orange Reddit never changes.

I tried once but never finished. Fucking boring ass test with dozens of questions about triangles and circles. I’d rather be playing video games.

Running nix-bitcoin šŸ‘€

I’m probably doing flakes wrong. I blame the docs lol.

You mean LND? I’m pretty sure it does.

ECC is nice to have but I disagree with your original rationale about a situation where you peer is hostile and there is some solar storm therefore I failed running a node because I didn’t bought premium enterprise hardware.

Makes sense for a lightning services provider (they are running on big cloud anyway) but for the average personI’d argue that the cost of having ECC alone is more than what the average person should have on their Lightning node.

Don’t know about CLN but LND create channel state backups for every transaction. If there are more memory problems then it would be a good idea to go around it thought software.

IMO it all should run on a crappy raspberry pi with usb storage otherwise that’s when the failure happens. When we raise the bar for people running nodes we are not being too much different from the bitcoin cash bit blockers.

I’m not a Windows or DEC person but I really enjoyed this interview with one of the minds behind VMS and Windows NT then later the Xbox One hypervisor. Zero bullshit conversation with a very opinionated veteran.

Why would you need ECC for a blockchain that checksums each piece of data? Is there any way a solar storm could flip a bit on your node and cause an issue?

Raid1 is and ECC might be nice if you are handling data but the whole thing about the things you’d run on a node is that they don’t really depend on such things.

Got this HP 1 liter Ryzen 2400G. Very nice machine but had to go through many extra bios settings and reboots before it finally allowed to enroll my keys.

Secure boot is nice. Anyone who disagrees is delusional. The only issue here is the fact that by default only vendor and Microsoft keys are enrolled. You can roll your own but it’s painful.

Opera is zombie Opera infected with the Chrome virus. Presto based Opera was a good alternative.

Looks like this is from 2013.

Not all hope is lost.
