TLDR is Gender & sexual identity is complicated & context determines subjective right/wrong.

I feel like any identity expression has 2 parts: private & public.

As long as no one is harmed, private identity expression has no norms.

But public identity is different - public is shared space. So there are certain minimal expectations.

I saw discussion on bathrooms - it's not a simple issue as the biology can clash with identity here. If someone looks male and identies as female (that's their choice) but when using a women's restroom, it should be done with caution. As no one has the time nor mindspace to have a nuanced conversation in a restroom - and quick judgements have to be made, so some women can feel uncomfortable in their presence. (Why is this the case? Because a restroom is a vulnerable space & genitalia are involved & scope for misbehaviour is present. Otherwise we'd have only unisex restrooms- I've read that mixed public baths were not uncommon in some period in Japan, so in that case this identity mismatch issue would have no bearing).

In the vice-versa scenario, maybe some men will also be uncomfortable if a person looking like a woman enters the restroom.

Thanks. You have the point. Like the example of the bathroom, it is sad if the only way a person feels comfortable ends up something many people don't want that person to do. I don't have an answer but. It's complex, and to me, it is going to take a long and patient journey to solve this kind of issue.
