This piece from my Dean Chip Fletcher about the Lahaina fire does a great job of summarizing:
1. Climate change effects in Hawaiʻi.
2. Causes of wildfires in Hawaiʻi.
3. Our (in)ability to identify the causes of these fires.
4. What to do about these fires.

Even if CO₂ emissions decreased annually as much as during the pandemic lockdown, we wouldn't achieve our climate targets.
While individuals made huge sacrifices, the system remained. This shows that individual action will not solve climate change. We need the system to change.

This is my world view:
Without CO₂, we'd all be dead; too much CO₂, we'd all be dead.

Some CO₂ removal (CDR) techniques are hard to scale, some might have negative side effects for ecosystems, and some are just outright fraud.
This headline from 111 years ago shows that we've long known about global warming, but not that it'd be a problem.
People back then thought warmer temperatures would be a good thing.
Only in the last few decades have we appreciated the negative effects of climate change.

Climate deniers seem to think everyone’s an arsonist now. 🔥

It's gross that fossil fuel companies are sponsoring national cycling teams.
Shell sponsors British Cycling.
Let's remember that during World War II, Shell supported Allied forces, but also had a Nazi-supporting branch called Rhenania-Ossag that fueled the German war efforts.

Don’t be afraid to protest!
My friend Ben Jealous was part of a few disruptive protests in college, and one of them got him suspended from school.
He went on to become a Rhode Scholar, and leaders of the NAACP, People for the American Way, and now The Sierra Club.
Be like Ben!

Protests are supposed to be disruptive. Pass it on.
It’s good to know it’s me and not CO₂.

Is everyone on the same page that old-growth forests sequester much more carbon than younger forests?
So it makes more sense to focus on not cutting down trees rather than planting new trees since it takes two to three decades for trees to reach full maturity, if they survive.
The federal government is preparing to pay companies to remove carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere, launching a first-of-its-kind program that could transform the market for the nascent climate technology
Have we told coral reefs to just get used to the heat yet?

Haha. This is the end stage of capitalism.

Nearly 70 years ago in 1953, The US #Atomic #Energy Commission published Energy in the Future where they argued that burning #fossil #fuel releases CO₂, which affects #climate & #sea #level.
They pointed out that temperature had been increasing, #glaciers were retreating, and sea level was rising, and speculated that it was due to rising atmospheric CO₂ from land use change and fossil fuel burning!
We've known for 70 years!
