Hundreds have had their Telegram activity wielded against them in criminal cases. Perhaps most disturbingly, some activists have found their “secret chats”—Telegram’s purportedly ironclad, end-to-end encrypted feature—behaving strangely, in ways that suggest an unwelcome third party might be eavesdropping.
These cases have set off a swirl of conspiracy theories, paranoia, and speculation among dissidents, whose trust in Telegram has plummeted. In many cases, it’s impossible to tell what’s really happening to people’s accounts—whether spyware or Kremlin informants have been used to break in, through no particular fault of the company; whether Telegram really is cooperating with Moscow; or whether it’s such an inherently unsafe platform that the latter is merely what appears to be going on.

I've been impressed with Briar for encrypted P2P chat. Keet is still too buggy to use for me in its Alpha. Won't let me join rooms constantly, even with myself using a second account for testing. Threema, Briar (on Fdroid or download the apk) and Matrix seem to be the way for now.
Keybase has self destructing messages too but I'm not sure if or how any servers are involved.
Also Blip! using Lightning is pretty dope. Unique keypairs used for every message, and a novel encryption algorithm used in the middle before hitting Tor➡️ Lightning➡️other peer. Only 2 sats per message, with video calls coming soon. Big fan, keep an eye on Blip!. Q4 2022 BTC Magazine did a piece on them and I've been impressed by my usage so far.

Proof of work money for proof of work products, sold through Nostr would be fantastic. Hodling cigars in cold storage/humidors only makes them more tasty over time.

Agreed, besides - Zap is quick, simple, and easy (just like Lightning is) to say. Faster than saying "payments" or "transactions" or "send me an invoice" and it just rolls off the tongue! I like that it's bitcoin-specific and not "fiNaNciaL" speak.

Considering that bitcoin started with the Microsoft Paint bitcoin wizard, magic internet money, and honey badger memes, it's ridiculous to try to move away from memes and humor. It's internet-native money, memes are literally what gets people through tough bear markets and keeps the community together, laughing, despite all odds. We win because of our indominable spirit and our heart. Leaning into the jokes and slang is what makes people want to join the fun. It's fun to zap, and to be zapped.
