Finally got an invite to #bluesky today and I'm sorry to say I don't hate it! It's got #Twitter's sense of humor but fewer ads, and less fighting. There's not nearly as much #crypto as the #Fedinerds complain there is. I really like the choose-your-own #algo thing. #Nostr should steal that!

I'm pretty sure it never really publishes to all 600 of them, it just gets to about 100 and then gives up.

Open source doesn't mean it'll be around forever. Some projects lose support and their DNS disappears, and my source code backups get lost. I want a wallet that I *know* I'll be able to find in 20 years.

I'm installing the #Snap package cause I figure I'm trusting #Canonical anyway. Using the #Ubuntu Software store.

Running #Electrum says I need more packages; this feels like bullshit. Cutting bait and trying to find a better #wallet software for #Linux.

I decided to use #Electrum since it seems pretty stable and well supported.

Had to install some python dependencies. Then I got errors about trying to install in an "externally-managed-environment" so I had to install more dependencies and create a "venv". After that it installed.

I'm not into this #python shit, I may try a different wallet if it gives me more trouble. Maybe the Windows/Android install process is better?

I can't get a straight answer about how to self custody #Bitcoin from anybody so I'm just gonna do it live.

First step was to install Ubuntu on a flash drive, and boot up my mini PC with it. I installed updates so it's not "airgapped" but who cares.
