I actually don't think Laurel's old enough to remember those days. Things are getting worse at a faster pace. That's for sure.
But America's infrastructure has been in decline for decades, not years.
Truth be told the worse thing that ever happened to America was the empire we spun up after the second world war.
That empire is dead and it will lead to the collapse of the Republic if we are forced to choose between communism and fascism. And that appears to be the choice that we're moving toward.
I think Christianity can help us avoid that choice, but not the disunified and dishonest version current among us.

Religion over a lifetime matters. A religion defines a culture's moral law, or at least provides the most durable influence and definitions over generations.
The intentional legal distribution of religious power and influence to the states at the beginning of the American Republic started the decline.
Our failure to nurture Christian unity from the time of our founding as an extension of European Christendom has produced this rotten cultural, moral and religious fruit.
And now Christianity has no legal right to influence politics in Maine and America. The task is left to individual laymen and women with the courage and conviction to not back down to the Jesus Christ haters.
No support comes from the formal hierarchy of Christianity in America. And America's founding form of Christianity has split into over forty thousand denominations.
I'm thankful for this ideological defense of the moral law. It's better than nothing.
