The Tokyo Metropolitan Government held a liaison conference to discuss infectious diseases, where it was reported that the number of reports of syphilis in Tokyo was about 20% higher than the previous year. More specifically, the number of syphilis reports in Tokyo was 1,297 as of May 11th.
The increase of women in their 20s infected by the sexually transmitted disease was said to be “remarkable,” and the metropolitan government plans to continue conducting free and anonymous tests throughout the year and help women with events such as a “Ladies’ Day” to strengthen their inspection system.

The damage they did was considered incalculable as those 200 women likely spread the disease to over 150 men each for over 30.000 cases of the disease spreading.
