Recording and re-recording sound.

I’ll take a crack at this. I’m sure others will correct me if I’m wrong.

Like Satoshi did with Bitcoin, nostr:npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 used existing technologies (websockets and JSON) in a novel way.

He chose a simple and fairly rigid data structure in events and chose a paradigm for relays which is (or seems to me) inspired by bitcoin. Dumb relays and smart clients.

For the network to be decentralized, the barrier to running a relay has to be as low as feasible. Like running a Bitcoin node.

Their simple data structure makes it extremely easy for developers to build applications which handle Nostr events.

If not stupidly, are you even bullish?

No kidding. Reading that book is like a fever dream. First hundred pages are hard to get through, but that seems to be by design. A lot like Moby Dick.

Maybe I’m confused by the replies. But my steel man argument #1

If the government bans bitcoin in the US, it would not be a viable medium of exchange because businesses would never accept it for payments as they rely on the government for permission to operate.

Government would also make on and off ramps illegal, effectively making it useless inside the US for anyone not tech inclined enough to use a kludgey and illegal workaround.

The average American is not used to dealing on the black market regularly like many people in other countries.

If the US wants to affect Bitcoin in other countries, they can exert influence through the IMF, trade deals, or bombs.

Ergo, Bitcoin is a risky investment.

I think that’s how most of these people are rationalizing it.

With so much in taxes going to the government? But with Bidenomics? 🤔 Smoke ‘em while you got ‘em.

Just put together a (probably longer) summary here: https://gist.github.com/staab/f8284af12450dbbdcead6e0c3ed95e2c

TL;DR it double-wraps messages and leaves the inner one unsigned which increases metadata hiding. It also avoids key sharing (although key sharing could be added on top of it if desired).

Thank you for this!

Might want to get that mole on the left checked out.

Right. I don’t think mass adoption happens until content creators decide to be here.

I love the community here and the memes, zaps, shitposting, #bitcoin. Right now, #nostr is THE place for this.

Other people want garden photos, makeup tutorials, dance videos and whatever else people are into.

At some point, #nostr becomes THE place to be for ____. But maybe this happens when we have niche relays. Or not. 🤷‍♂️
