Barak Ravid: The talks between U.S. and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia are expected to take place on Tuesday, a source with direct knowledge tells me

Talks between U.S. and Russian decision-makers on the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War set for this week will take place Tuesday, a source with direct knowledge told Barak Ravid of Axios. The talks are reportedly meant to lay the groundwork for future peace negotiations and an eventual leader summit.

Context:

In the lead-up to these talks, we’ve seen U.S.-Ukrainian talks on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the first call since last December between a U.S. Secretary of State and the Russian Foreign Minister, and a call between U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The U.S. delegation will be headed by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, and President Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.

Despite Trump's claims that the U.S. has provided "hundreds of billions of dollars" in military support to Ukraine while Europe has contributed far less, the reality is quite different.

As seen in the data, from January 2022 to December 2024, the U.S. contributed €114.2 billion to Ukraine's defense, while Europe provided €132.3 billion. Even in terms of military equipment, despite the U.S. having a vastly larger arsenal, European nations have contributed more in some areas.

For example:

Aircraft: Europe has delivered 51 aircraft of various types (including fighter jets) to Ukraine, with 85 more expected in the coming months. The U.S. has delivered none.

Armored vehicles: Europe has sent nearly 1,800, while the U.S. has provided around 300.

Self-propelled artillery: Europe has delivered nearly 800 units, compared to just 18 from the U.S.

The key takeaway here is that Europe has been actively engaged in Ukraine’s defense, contrary to Trump’s frequently repeated narrative.

The MK-84 bombs, known as "bunker busters" for their ability to detonate underground, have begun arriving in Israel. These bombs are crucial for destroying Hamas terrorist infrastructure, such as tunnels.

Although Biden had frozen the shipment—despite Israel having already paid for them—Trump authorized their delivery on his first day in office.

In total, 1,800 of these bombs will be sent to Israel.

Alice Weidel, the German AfD candidate for Chancellor, stated that if elected, she will lift sanctions on Russia, restore trade relations, resume Russian gas imports, and halt all aid to Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression.

Yesterday, Alexander Dugin, often referred to as "Putin's ideologue," made a post urging Germans to vote for AfD—warning that if they don’t, Russia will invade and divide Germany.
