Teaching unions gear up for fight with Number 10 over AI job-loss fears
submitted by https://lemmy.nz/u/throws_lemy
The National Education Union (NEU), the largest teaching union in the UK, is concerned AI teaching tools could lead to some in the profession losing work, particularly lower-paid teaching assistants whose tasks could become automated.
Alarm bells were set off in January when the government announced it was giving £1m in funding to 16 tech companies to build teacher AI tools “for feedback and marking, driving high and rising education standards”.
E-waste or Linux? Charities face tough choices as Windows 10 support ends
submitted by https://lemmy.world/u/cm0002
In a nutshell: As Microsoft prepares to end free security updates for Windows 10 in October, a significant challenge looms for charities that refurbish and distribute older computers to those in need. With an estimated 240 million PCs unable to meet the stringent hardware requirements for Windows 11, these organizations face a difficult decision: provide potentially insecure Windows 10 systems, send them to e-waste recyclers, or explore alternative operating systems like Linux.
Microsoft’s requirements for Windows 11 include a 1GHz or faster CPU with at least two cores, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, Secure Boot capability, and TPM 2.0 compatibility. However, the supported Intel CPU list only goes back to 8th Gen chips, introduced in 2017, while the AMD list includes Ryzen 2000 series and above.

Heritage Foundation and Allies Discuss Dismantling the EU
submitted by https://lemmy.ca/u/floofloof
The group that drafted a key blueprint for Donald Trump’s second term convened a meeting in Washington D.C. this week to consider proposals for bulldozing the European Union (EU).
The Polish investigative outlet VSquare revealed that the Heritage Foundation gathered hardline conservative groups on 11 March to hear how they would overhaul the current structures of the EU.
The “closed-door workshop” featured a debate on a new paper produced by the lobby groups MCC and Ordo Iuris entitled: “The Great Reset: Restoring Member State Sovereignty in the 21st Century”.

I want to turn my into sort of gaming server
submitted by https://szmer.info/u/Igilq
Hey, I have a pc that I would like to install light Linux distribution on but I don’t want to do it because my computer has weak parts but because I want to save up on space and make pc focus so it could stream games that would be installed on it and then I could simply stream games from it instead of downloading them on different devices. Would anyone have any recommendations for said distro?

What's up, selfhosters? It's selfhosting Sunday!
submitted by https://lemmy.nocturnal.garden/u/tofu
I know for many of us every day is selfhosting day, but I liked the alliteration. Or do you have fixed dates for maintenance and tinkering?
Let us know what you set up lately, what kind of problems you currently think about or are running into, what new device you added to your homelab or what interesting service or article you found.
This post is proudly sent from my very own Lemmy instance that runs at my homeserver since about ten days. So far, it’s been a very nice endeavor.
