the 2 groups of Israelis that still reproduce are arabs & orthodox jews (the ones who dress in black, etc).
the others, are below replacement fertility.
so, your proposed country will have no pop in a few generations.
MATLAB is becoming old school because it is paid. (students pirate it, but companies can't)
the kids are doing R for statistics / plots , numpy-python for most stuff and OpenCV for vision/img proc (py for prototyping, C++ for speed)
I have good experience teaching a toy assembly (really super-simple) for freshmen before starting the standard C 'intro to programming course'
they get the idea of memory addresses, read/write, registers, attribution, etc,
before I would get many students that would not understand:
1) why
x = x + 1
is not wrong ( they used to think x = x + 1 => x - x = 1 => 0 = 1 wrong! )
2) why those attributions are all the same:
int a;
a = '0'; a = 48; a = 0x30; a = 0b11000;
after the toy assembly course over a non-existing toy computer, they got these issues easily.
also teaching pointers was facilitated.
for 15 years now, I have been asking students to use datasets large enough to require efficiency.
like, auto-complete with the full english dictionary, search on real point clouds with millions of points, or TSP on city lists of real countries.
e.g., if they do not use a hash table correctly (implementing comparison functions, not just == ), and perform dumb linear search, it will take 100s of seconds. if they implement stuff in a stupid cubic way, it won't finish in the same month.
and something I really found amazing:
conspiracy theory "USA did not go to the moon" because "there was no way such old computers could control a spaceship - they could not even run a VGA screen!"
just lack of understanding that once the equations are solved in the paper, the actual control laws aren't really computationally intensive (at least for today's standards), a few kflops could handle that.
medical care generaly will change after the covid vaxxes.
on one hand, harm. more cancer, infections, death, costs...
on the other hand... lesser life spectancy means less costs...
not sure how it will play out.
if the system start to colapse, not having medical care will make more people give up on the system.
yep.
before, you could not tinker with computers without knowing a little bit. Discrete eletronics were everywhere with TTL logic ports. basic dos/unix commands used stuff like regular expressions, redirection of stdout, etc.
today the kids grow with cell phones, so high-level they do not know what a directory is. they code websites, but do not know what is a socket.
lower level disciplines are thought as "boring", "distant from market", "not useful" "I ain't going to design chips anyway"
AI has made it worse. undergrads ride the hype-wave, programming in super-high-level abstractions, pyTorch, etc., doing their final projects with a 2 page code (and happy about how short it is) that they do not understand deeply.
