Thanks! Appreciate it.

I see 3 possibilities regarding this considering the current environment:

1. They are registered businesses, that have to implement some form of kyc. A kyc'ed ecash custodian could still be an improvement over a regular one, depending on how it is implemented. If you can do private p2p transactions, that would be something a regular custodial service cannot offer you, but a kyc'ed ecash service could, by leveraging blind authentication. I still think this is pretty lame, and I'm not sure if i'd use it.

2. They are small enough to not be a target,. Imagining hundreds of small cyber banks all for small scale payments. Not very useful for money laundering, so likely not targets for law enforcement.

3. They operate in the shadows or in a jurisdiction that doesn't discriminate against privacy. I wouldn't be surprised if we see either/or in the future.

Of course these are only for the "payments service" usecase.

What do you think, did I miss any?

because in an ecash system, the user creates the ecash, and the mint blinly signs it.

It's a user-mint interaction, that only works if both parties play by the book.

It's not just like the provider/bank says they are using ecash, and you have to trust them.

If you don't understand or would like to know more on how it works, let me know

Sharing my thoughts on ecash, after working on #cashu for almost 2 years

Imagine this:

- you want to provide LN/ecash services to your family and friends

-you don't want to know who is doing what payments, to offer them better privacy

- You end up running an ecash mint

- you don't want any rando to be able to use/abuse your mint

- you need auth (preferably blinded)

Also know this:

- It's an optional spec

- No one is forced to add auth to their mint

- you are not forced to use a mint that implements auth

Auth has a lot of drawbacks for ecash mints, but in some cases it is an absolute requirement

Have you tried one of the wallets?

v2.nutstash.app

cashu.me

Minibits

boardwalk cash ...

Cashu being ecash, you can just send someone the token, like this:

cashuBo2FteCJodHRwczovL21pbnQubWluaWJpdHMuY2FzaC9CaXRjb2luYXVjc2F0YXSBomFpSABQBVDwSUFGYXCBo2FhEGFzeEBmMjdhOGIzYzM3Mjc2N2RiOTM4Y2RlMzkxNTE1NmFjYWVmODYwZThiZjA2NjE3NDQ2NWNmZTkyMDAxYzQzNzc2YWNYIQKfQ3tcYP91-daTPS_BcP4hJ7czwOTmtaJ9qaI4AYBNjQ

But posting it on nostr, it usually gets claimed by a bot

The truth is slightly different. There are several domains around cashu as there are several domains around nostr. I pointed http://cashu.cash which was an idea that I had and bought. Calle then made accusations of me squatting it, and various threats to extort it. I simply said that it was not in my current plans, given the hostile reaction. He then banned me from the chat room. Quite ridiculous really. He already has a home page. Each to their own.

The truth is slightly different:

* you sniped it after the main contributor of the open source project with said domain name expressed the desire to get the domain

* After asking in the groupchat if someone sniped the domain, you remained silent

* you neither did anything with the domain, nor did you contribute to the project

As said, it's your LEGAL right to do with it whatever you want.

It's also nostr:nprofile1qqs9pk20ctv9srrg9vr354p03v0rrgsqkpggh2u45va77zz4mu5p6ccpzemhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejz7qgkwaehxw309a5xjum59ehx7um5wghxcctwvshszrnhwden5te0dehhxtnvdakz7qrxnfk s right to ban you from the group for actively trying to sabotage

So what are we talking about?

Also, which threats of extortion were made? That's a pretty serious accusation
