"Moonlighting" was written by Sayer and former Supertramp bass player, and inaugural musical director of the first Rocky Horror Show, Frank Farrell.
It was inspired by one of Leo’s roadies who fell in love with the daughter of a chief of police in the late 1960s.
The chief of police was not pleased about this and would not agree for them to get married, so the couple decided to run off and elope to Gretna Green in Scotland, where this would be possible.
However, they never made it to Gretna Green, as they were stopped by Carlisle police who had been made aware by Worthing police of the couple's intentions.
For the song though, Sayer wanted the story to end happily, finishing the last verse with the lyrics “we're only ten miles to Gretna, they're three hundred behind".
The first single from his third album “Another Year” became his fourth Top 10 hit in the UK, also peaking at #1 in Ireland, #3 in Rhodesia, #6 in Norway, #7 in Sweden, #12 in South Africa, #13 in Australia, and #14 in New Zealand.

Recall that in the opening months of the Russia-Ukraine war, authorities in Europe and the US began canceling all things Russian. Everything from famous Russian musical compositions, to Russian athletes' appearances in world competitions, to even great authors like Fyodor Dostoevsky and Leo Tolstoy were basically banned from Western institutions and public mention.
Xenophobia was all the rage among Western liberals, and even Russian tea rooms in American cities were vandalized. Innocent individuals faced discrimination for mere Russian ethnicity or Russian-sounding names. Absurdly, alongside banning Russian teams under the Russian flag at the Olympics - something which never happened to team USA even as Bush invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, killing some one million people according to some estimates - even Russia's Paralympic teams were barred.
That's right, not even Russia's disabled athletes could participate in world sports under their flag. Finally, this harsh and unnecessary measure has been reversed, as the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has voted to lift Russia's partial suspension, along with Belarus, finally allowing disabled athletes from the countries to participate under their national flags.

The IPC said in a statement on Saturday that its members at the organization’s General Assembly in Seoul, South Korea have voted not to maintain the partial suspension of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC). In the final stage of the vote, 91 delegates supported lifting all restrictions on Moscow, with 77 being against it and eight abstaining.
“This decision means NPC (national Paralympic committee) Russia now regain their full rights and privileges of IPC membership... The IPC will work with NPC Russia to put practical arrangements in place for this as soon as reasonably possible,” the statement read.
The ban on Russia and Belarus went back to 2022, though exceptions were later made which allowed some individual athletes to compete under a neutral flag.
Next, Moscow is going to lobby for a lifting of all of its athletes to compete under the national flag. Many viewers of the Summer and Winter Olympic games all over the globe have observed that the games have suffered in both quality and excitement of competition as a result of the Russian team remaining out.
Of course, Ukraine is furious, and wants the IPC to repeal its latest move. Ukraine’s Sports Minister Matviy Bidnyi has called it a betrayal of "conscience and the Olympic values."

Entre bronca y desconcierto, la Albiceleste siguió adelante y encontró oxígeno a los 40 minutos, cuando nuevamente el delantero del Bayer Leverkusen apareció con un gran cabezazo para el 2-0. No obstante, antes del descanso Cuba descontó con un gol de Pérez tras un córner mal defendido.
En el complemento, Argentina se replegó con inteligencia y apostó al orden táctico. El equipo manejó los tiempos y esperó el momento para golpear de nuevo. Ese instante llegó en el cierre: Ian Subiabre sacó un derechazo desde un ángulo cerrado que sorprendió al arquero y liquidó la historia con el 3-1 definitivo.
Así, Argentina debutó con tres puntos. Con la victoria, la Albiceleste se acomoda en el Grupo D que comparte con Italia y Australia. Justamente, los europeos se impusieron 1-0 en su estreno. Democrats expressed "national outrage" after the ICE arrest of Ian Roberts, an illegal alien from Guyana who somehow became the Superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools, the largest school district in Iowa. Roberts competed as an Olympic athlete and distance runner for Guyana 25 years ago, but this apparently didn't help him escape immigration enforcement and his active warrants.

, Roberts was working as the Superintendent despite being an illegal alien with a final order of removal and no work authorization. He was caught with a firearm in his possession (which is illegal to carry for a non-citizen), as well as a hunting knife and $3000 cash. Roberts had previous warrants for weapons possession charges in February of 2020.
Democrats claim that these ICE arrests and Trump's deportation policies are directly to blame for the now numerous shootings committed by leftist activists. In other words, conservatives who are enforcing constitutional immigration laws are to blame when leftists try to kill them.
During a targeted enforcement operation on Sept. 26, 2025, officers approached Roberts in his vehicle after identifying himself, but he sped away. Officers later discovered his vehicle abandoned near a wooded area. State Patrol assisted in locating the subject and he was taken into ICE custody.
"This suspect was arrested in possession of a loaded weapon in a vehicle provided by Des Moines Public Schools after fleeing federal law enforcement," said ICE ERO St. Paul Field Office Director Sam Olson. "This should be a wake-up call for our communities to the great work that our officers are doing every day to remove public safety threats. How this illegal alien was hired without work authorization, a final order of removal, and a prior weapons charge is beyond comprehension and should alarm the parents of that school district."
The arrest spurred a protest outside the federal courthouse in Des Moines.

In response to the arrest, protesters mobilized under what appears to be the Party for Socialism and Liberation, a radical leftist group linked to the Los Angeles riots and connected to Neville Roy Singham, a U.S. billionaire with reported ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and to extremist organizations that fuel division and civil chaos nationwide.

The Iowa Board of Educational Examiners issued Roberts a license to serve as Superintendent in the state in July 2023, according to Norris.

Roberts entered the US on a student visa in 1999, on which he overstayed. He had no work order and was given a final order of removal by an immigration judge in May 2024 (under Joe Biden), according to the DHS statement. Des Moines public school officials claim they were not aware of the order of removal. The leftist sentiments and calls for "radical empathy" from those same officials suggest, however, that they were likely aware of his immigration status and hired him anyway.

Michigan Church Shooting: Latest Details From Authorities
At least one person was killed and nine others wounded in a shooting Sunday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, police said.
Authorities reported that the gunman slammed into the church with a mid-size truck during a service, opened fire, and then set a blaze that engulfed the building.
Police said that more victims may be found once it is safe to re-enter the area.
Officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, killing him. He was identified as a 40-year-old man from Michigan, but no name has been released, nor has an official motive been disclosed.
Shooting comes as members mourned the death of Russell M. Nelson, the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Grand Blanc Township Police Chief said authorities will execute a search warrant at the suspect's residence and comb through cell records to "find out if there was a motive."
The FBI has allocated "100 agents to the area" to help get statements from witnesses.
