if you can't finance your house or car with the blockchain, it's not a bank replacement

can i get a Bitcoin mortgage?

maybe this exists, but is that inherent to Bitcoin, or is it a bank that is offering that?

if it's a bank offering a mortgage, why use Bitcoin? it's not replacing a bank.

if you compare Bitcoin to gold, this still doesn't replace a bank. credit is what keeps the system going. once a cryptocurrency can do that...

if a blockchain could replicate the main function of a bank (offering credit), THEN we're talking

the main reason you operate a bank is loans. Bitcoin doesn't have loans. you can lend Bitcoin to people but you can lend anything to people, so Bitcoin isn't special in that regard.

the primary purpose of a bank isn't to keep your money.

a mattress can keep your money.

stop saying that Bitcoin can replace a bank. it's childish.

there are some fast relays out there but unless you proxy/cache the big relays, who'd want to use it?

my indexer tries to help the slow relays by passing them queries in batches but it doesn't work. i can't even hand them 8-12 queries per minute. they're too slow to respond to even that.

i've got a feeling that whatever the big relays are using, they could see some serious speedups if they could use memcached or Redis.

what kind of database are the big Nostr relays typically using, and why is it so slow?

relay.mostr.pub (the ActivityPub bridge) is very slow to respond to queries. doesn't seem to be very performant. i hope Alex will optimise it a bit.

some of these Nostr relays are extremely slow to respond to search queries. in my indexer, i'll request info about 50 specific pubkeys (not a particularly difficult query) and they'll take several seconds to provide the answer.

not sure i could handle a friend with benefits on an emotional level.

maybe an enemy with benefits, and i was screwing her to teach her a lesson because she's a bad girl πŸ˜†

i have heard one, yes, because i've been one

if the English language made any sense, violin and violence should mean roughly the same thing, but it doesn't

i'm not really particularly fond of purple

nor am i fond of ostriches

go ahead and shoot me

given how small Nostr is at the moment, it's likely that i either caused that debate to happen or was participating in it.

mostr.pub has a lot of traffic and yet is not spammy. reason: it's forwarding traffic for people on Nostr who follow accounts on the Fediverse and vice versa. it's a safe relay to add that won't screw up your feed. it's 99.9% real people posting.
