Iām a 52 GenX with 3 teenagers and last night might have been the most important night of my life. Iāve lead humans for 20+ years in my fiat mining job. Im pretty good at it, but I have tried to really āNever bring it homeā. Iāve felt that this job already takes me away from family for 50hrs a week. Why would I increase that burden on my family. Strong men deal with it / adapt/thrive.
Now, certain situations trigger me when Iām out in world when Iām in similar environments to my job. While I love being w my family I would rather not be in the environment. In those situations I think Iām managing my mind but my body language communicates the complete opposite & causes everyone to worry about meā¦& all I want to do it take care of them šµāš«
Last night my breakthrough was I was able to share what I need in extreme situations. It was met with love and understanding. I donāt need to put myself in any of these environments or at least they know it causes me stress. Plus, they want to hear about āmy dayā. This was shocking to me. To talk about myself and share feels selfish. Itās the complete opposite I learned. By sharing just a simple breakdown of my day, allows me to give/love/connect. This sets the conditions for a conversation to deepen loving family relationships.
I am relieved and kinda pissed that I wasted many years holding in my daily life experiences w my wife/family. But, Iāve seen it, itās been communicated and now there can be positive change w daily work.
Love is the main protocol for life. But, sharing your experience no matter how trivial and selfish it might feel is essential to add value /deepen connections with the people you love the most.
