I farily new, but the most spam I've gotten is airdrop shit I don't give af about. I reckon I could see that getting worse. I see the benefits of a paid relay is it does the blocking for you? I wonder if some sort of dns based relay blocking and distributed list just like add blocking could work.

Which could be parsed by the individual... Rather than by an instance admin (as in fediverse) The harder I think about it it's reinventing email again.
