nostr:npub1cn4t4cd78nm900qc2hhqte5aa8c9njm6qkfzw95tszufwcwtcnsq7g3vle: on strike, when I enter a friend’s username to send them bitcoin, they don’t show up. Any idea what’s going on?

I have a weird passion for studying magic, not because I want to be able to do it, but it’s an easy way to study con artists and the like. It’s a con, everybody knows it’s a con, and you can actually figure out how the tricks are done if you care to spend the time on it. But it’s quite useful spotting real life cons in normal life.

Working from home

She also was sitting in a good amount of cash throughout 2022 because of good luck. (She was redoing her kitchen & wanted to make sure she could cover the expenses fully, & was worried about volatility.) She mentioned that to me sometime in late September after her kitchen remodeling bills were paid.

Then AMZN shit the bed for quarterly earnings in October and I told her to put in a limit buy at $95 & see what she could get. (Being that she’s already well covered in the bitcoin area.) And well. I can’t say I’m unhappy with that recommendation either. šŸ˜‚

I mean, she sold a decent amount of Google without telling me because her finance advisor told her to. (To be fair, I’m not sure I ever realized she bought much because of me. But apparently she did. In multiple investment accounts. It did very well for her.)

But I did tell that this time she can’t sell any bitcoin unless I tell her to or she has to (which, of course, I would tell her to sell in that case. That’s kinda the point. It’s the best insurance).

I explained that this was really important because most financial advisors don’t get it, partly because it will put most of them out of a job. She understood and agreed.

True

Don’t worry, you’ll likely be proven right. Then they’ll start listening to you on finance/investing matters but that becomes a different kind of burden.

My 75 year old mom started to buy more bitcoin than the initial allocation I forced on her for insurance purposes. I asked her why. She said, ā€œThe last time you were this adamant above me buying something it was when Google IPOed. It became my best performing asset.ā€

The issue is now I’m responsible. And that kinda sucks too.

(To be fair, she understands bitcoin much better than most people who don’t actually study it. Partly because of me talking about it and partly because of who she has always been. She’s a Republican teacher who served in the MA state house. She was a Republican because she believes in balanced budget, etc. She considers herself a Ford Republican to this day.)

This is often because they don’t see you as you are but what you used to be. (A dumb/drunk/high/uneducated (in the best sense of education) [kid, college student, young man], etc.]). It’s really hard, if not impossible, to change that preconception.

To the extent it’s changeable, it’s a hell of a lot easier to change that perception if you disappear from their lives for a significant amount of years before you recommend. This is because the frog in the boiling pot is a real phenomenon you must fight. And the people you are closest to are usually people you see often. nostr:note19km44pnjqtuw2w3fr3lv7zghpk0xcze8qk9j4kntp2zsemywhz9s7yhhe6

That name is hysterical. šŸ˜‚

And yeah, it’s definitely not the most important thing on your checklist.

Though when you do launch it, consider incorporating the Bitcoin logo into some of the merch if possible. I get into a lot of conversations with random folks when I’m wearing anything with the Bitcoin logo on it. And your company is one of the few I showcase to explain the importance of the tech.

I remember the first time I showed one of your videos on Twitter to my brother, an eye doctor, of you instantly sending US Dollars through the Lightning Network to be received as Euros in the EU. My brother looked at me after watching fit and immediately said to me, ā€œWestern Union is dead.ā€

I just want nostr:npub1cn4t4cd78nm900qc2hhqte5aa8c9njm6qkfzw95tszufwcwtcnsq7g3vle to launch a Strike merch store. I don’t get tattoos so I gotta represent other ways.

And one has to be a sweatshirt. Haha nostr:note1algy5shhj7cylcrxg4k8hlu2segmlmtnz0lysnz78ytzqmkzmz2srpqjez

To be fair, I think Frances’ point was about the word ā€œscarceā€. My issue there is that Satoshi addressed that issue years ago (but this may not have been brought to attention). Satoshi said ā€œI'm using the word scarce here to only mean limited potential supply.ā€
