Unfortunately, the Chromebook runs on Google ecosystem. Technically, the whole OS runs on Google Chrome. and degoogling the whole device is not easy.
Why don't I get a used device, you may ask? I used to buy used laptop, but their lifespan is short. Either they are easily faulty, or the battery just sucks. This device, it is good. Full charge can get me up to 7 hours of work . which is great.
If I have a choice, I would not even use an Intel device. But I couldn't get a good , affordable alternative for AMD, or Mediatek, or Snapdragon.
As for the PC brand, technically HP has been reducing its involvement in the genocide, so its fair.
So after a deep search, I found a good solution. Chromebook Enterprise. So basically, Chromebooks are Chrome OS + Android + Linux. It seems like the best option for me. I got a very good bargain for a near new device, but old one. HP Chromebook C640. Only RM850 ( about 210 USD). Very powerful device. i7 vpro, 16gb RAM. Extendable memory
So here is the problem. Microsoft is directly involved in the genocide. Their AI tools are being used to target and kill people in Gaza. But almost all laptops in the market is Windows base. I am familiar with Linux so is not an issue but there are not many Linux laptop in the market though.
Problem is, I am trying my best to work with the boycott effort. I for one don't blanket boycott all USA or Israel products. I boycott products that are closely linked to the genocide. For example, I still go for dinner at Texas Chicken or having Ben and Jerry ice cream because they are not involved in Killing of Palestinians. But I don't eat McDonalds or Burger King.
for my current job, I am mostly working in the clinic, with occasional visits to factory or site. But I do a lot (and lots) of reporting so I think I need a proper laptop
Earlier this year I have to buy a laptop when I move to my new working place.
Previously I used a tablet , Oukitel OT8 as my go-to device.
While a tablet fit perfectly when I was in my previous job as a factory doctor, it does not fit my current job well.
