living in a European city as a driver is a drastically different experience from living in it as a pedestrian. you don't even go to the same shops, because the ones that are easy to access by foot are often hard to access by car and vice versa.
since i don't drive a car and don't ride in them very often as an adult, my main association with them is still that they're something parents drive.

Norwegian roads tend to be a bit over-engineered. they can handle much higher speeds than the conservative speed limits would suggest.
weird to see someone talk about a Toyota Camry from 1990 as having so few safety mechanisms that it's somewhat unsafe to drive today, considering that our parents drove us around in cars like these for our entire childhoods, and routinely broke the speed limit in them:
