In many places in Galicia it is traditional during Carnaval to make a like a symbolic sacrifice the last the of the celebrations, which always coincides with Ash Wednesday.

I’m not sure if this was in 2009 or 2010, but it was when my daughter was attending pre-school.

This was the beginning of Great Financial Crisis. And that year the people decided to sacrifice a symbolic banker.
