Helene adds stress to election in North Carolina. The devastation from the storm comes as poll workers and election officials in North Carolina were working under tenuous circumstances as the threats to election administrators continue to rise.
Election officials have been bracing for the possibility of former President Trump and his allies seizing on any expected delays or changes in the election process to falsely claim that the election was fraudulent, as Trump did when he lost to President Biden in 2020 which led to Trump’s supporters attempting to overthrow the US government and attempts to kill Vice President Pence and members of Congress. 🇺🇸

"We know that we can onboard the next generation of voters into our democracy if we can get people to register and get out to these elections." 🇺🇸

A Republican-led group is challenging Georgia’s new requirement that poll workers count the total number of ballots by hand, saying it’s another example of the MAGA majority State Election Board overstepping its legal authority. 🇺🇸 “They are not an elected body,” Turner said of the State Election Board. “They are not accountable to voters, therefore they should not have lawmaking authority.”
A new law will go into effect in Louisiana on Oct. 1 that will classify two drugs—mifepristone and misoprostol, which are commonly used for abortions, postpartum hemorrhaging, and miscarriage management—as “controlled dangerous substances.” The change is worrying doctors who say the repercussions could be life-threatening for some. 🇺🇸
The law, which passed in the state House and Senate in the spring and was shortly after signed by Republican Gov. Jeff Landry, makes Louisiana the first state in the country to reclassify the medications. While abortion is banned in nearly all circumstances in Louisiana, the drugs have many other medical uses, and doctors have argued that reclassifying the medications could restrict or block patients’ access to health care, sometimes in emergencies.

With Birth Control Under Attack, Enshrining Women’s Reproductive Freedom in Law Is Essential 🇺🇸 Project 2025, the conservative policy agenda spearheaded by the Heritage Foundation which JD Vance has supported earlier this year, aims to block 48 million women in the U.S. from accessing emergency contraception. Meanwhile, a case advancing through federal courts could strip teens of birth control access nationwide.
Pennsylvania voter registration hints at nail-biter November election. “Another very important part of this this election is turnout. It's one thing for the Democrats to still enjoy a slight advantage over Republicans in terms of a total number of registered voters, but the key is getting those voters to the polls and making sure that they turn out turn out to vote,” he explained. 🇺🇸
