I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as gnocchi, is in fact, GNU/cchi, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus cchi. Gnocchi is not a dish unto itself, but rather another tasty component of a fully functioning GNU meal made delicious by the GNU coreflours, potato utilities, and vital kitchen components comprising a full culinary system as defined by Mama’s Cookbook™.
Many home chefs prepare a modified version of the GNU/cchi system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU/cchi which is widely consumed today is often simply called “gnocchi,” and many of its eaters are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Gastronomy Project.
There really is a cchi, and these people are eating it, but it is just a part of the meal they consume. Cchi is the doughy kernel: the part of the dish that absorbs sauces and delivers carbs to the rest of your body. The kernel is an essential part of a dish, but tasteless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete culinary experience.
