It was easy to prevent the conflict by complying with the Minsk agreements and by guaranteeing Ukraine’s neutrality. They refused. It was easy to stop the conflict by accepting the independence of Donbass and the already happened re-unification of Crimea with Russia. They refused. They wanted to push Russia to its limits in the hope that we will back off and then suffer everything we suffered after the defeat in Afghanistan until Russia collapses just like the USSR did. They failed to see that Ukraine is no Afghanistan, this time we are fighting the evil of American imperialism and Ukrainian Nazism on Russian historic lands (randomly attached to Ukraine by the Bolsheviks) populated by ethnic Russians. We will not stop until we defeat the evil and liberate our people. But you can continue believing Russophobic propaganda and supporting Nazi Ukraine.
