The civilized have created the wretched, quite coldly and deliberately, and do not intend to change the status quo; are responsible for their slaughter and enslavement; rain down bombs on defenseless children whenever and wherever they decide that their ‘vital interests’ are menaced, and think nothing of torturing a man to death: these people are not to be taken seriously when they speak of the ‘sanctity’ of human life, or the ‘conscience’ of the civilized world.

Bertrand Russell’s Last Message: Israel-Palestine War
This statement on the Middle East was dated 31st January 1970, and was read on 3rd February, the day after Bertrand Russell’s death, to an International Conference of Parliamentarians meeting in Cairo.
"The development of the crisis in the Middle East is both dangerous and instructive. For over 20 years #Israel has expanded by force of arms. After every stage in this expansion Israel has appealed to “reason” and has suggested “negotiations”. This is the traditional role of the imperial power because it wishes to consolidate with the least difficulty what it has already taken by violence. Every new conquest becomes the new basis of the proposed negotiation from strength, which ignores the injustice of the previous aggression. ...
The aggression committed by Israel must be condemned, not only because no state has the right to annexe foreign territory, but because every expansion is an experiment to discover how much more aggression the world will tolerate. The refugees who surround #Palestine in their hundreds of thousands were described recently by the Washington journalist I.F. Stone as “the moral millstone around the neck of world Jewry.” ...
The tragedy of the people of Palestine is that their country was “given” by a foreign Power to another people for the creation of a new State. The result was that many hundreds of thousands of innocent people were made permanently homeless. With every new conflict their number have increased. How much longer is the world willing to endure this spectacle of wanton cruelty? It is abundantly clear that the refugees have every right to the homeland from which they were driven, and the denial of this right is at the heart of the continuing conflict. No people anywhere in the world would accept being expelled in masse from their own country; how can anyone require the people of Palestine to accept a punishment which nobody else would tolerate? A permanent just settlement of the refugees in their homeland is an essential ingredient of any genuine settlement in the Middle East.
We are frequently told that we must sympathize with Israel because of the suffering of the Jews in Europe at the hands of the Nazis. I see in this suggestion no reason to perpetuate any suffering. What Israel is doing today cannot be condoned, and to invoke the horrors of the past to justify those of the present is gross hypocrisy. ...
Justice requires that the first step towards a settlement must be an Israeli withdrawal from all the territories occupied in June 1967. A new world campaign is needed to help bring justice to the long–suffering people of the Middle East."

In #Israel, Growing Fascism and a Racism Akin to Early Nazism
“The left is no longer capable of overcoming the toxic ultra-nationalism that has evolved here,” Zeev Sternhell, a Holocaust survivor and Israel’s foremost authority on fascism, warned in 2018, “the kind whose European strain almost wiped out a majority of the Jewish people.” Sternhell added, “[W]e see not just a growing Israeli #fascism but racism akin to #Nazism in its early stages.”

The whole of our European culture has for a long time been moving, with a torment of tension that is increasing from one decade to another, in the direction of catastrophe; like a river that wants to reach its end, that no longer reflects, that is afraid to reflect.

The God of #Israel is not the God of Christ. There is an uncrossable gap between the God who requires bloody sacrifices and the God who requires love.
They want to settle justly, but if they reject Christ, they will end up flooding the world with blood, for blood calls for blood, and he who draws the sword will perish by the sword.

The genocide in #Gaza is, without a doubt, another verdict on our civilization. For 75 years, the Zionists have been atrocious in #Palestine and neighboring countries, almost 50 years of which have been in my lifetime, and what I remember of Palestine from my early childhood is not much different from what I see there now — the same horrors I saw as a little boy on a black-and-white Soviet TV screen, I see now in all the colors on a Chinese smartphone. For 75 years, our civilization has been unable to solve this problem, to stop the violence and injustice. International community. International institutions. International whatever. All rotten and useless if such evil exists. And what is rotten will inevitably die. Must die.
Just as budget items in a private household serve as a characteristic sign of the essence of an individual, so the budget of a state dependent on the majority serves as a sign of the essence of the masses.

In concentration camps — in this living laboratory and in this testing ground — we have observed that some behaved like pigs, while others behaved like saints. Man contains both possibilities; which one is realized depends on decisions made, not on conditions.

The rise and fall of rationality in language | PNAS
“The post-truth era has taken many by surprise. Here, we use massive language analysis to demonstrate that the rise of fact-free argumentation may perhaps be understood as part of a deeper change. ... The surge of post-truth political argumentation suggests that we are living in a special historical period when it comes to the balance between emotion and reasoning."
The profound hypocrisy and inherent barbarism of bourgeois civilisation lies unveiled before our very eyes, turning from its home, where it assumes respectable forms, to the colonies, where it goes naked.
— Karl Marx
I love the idea of democracy, but it doesn't work in an unhealthy society, which can only be brought to a healthy state by a #meritocracy — a political system in which only those who have proven their merit through decades of hard and successful work for society rise to the top.
Chinese meritocracy is a steady island of rationality as compared to the turbulent waters of Western pseudo-democracy. The merit-proven way in which people get to the top of the CCP is the opposite of the demagogic way in which people get to the top of Western power structures.
The key element of a successful meritocracy is ideology. You can’t lead society to a healthy state without a clear vision of that state. I know only one ideology which is suitable for this purpose — #Marxism. Read this brilliant book by Erich Fromm to understand why.
