not be a lexicon stickler but: a thermometer would melt in a fire. if it is the mercury glass type then heated mercury turns into a toxic gas whose spread would be accelerated by the heat.
this metaphor would work better if instead of the word “fire” he used “fever” but even then the temperature dropping can indicate a post-mortem type of a situation.
maybe do a green juice detox to clear your mind and then decide?
