2008 Caterham Seven RST-V8 Levante
As a bonus in 2008, Caterham did the unthinkable and stuffed a supercharged V8 in their lightweight Seven model.
The Seven RST-V8 Levante was a collaboration project between Caterham and RS Performance and was powered by a RS designed 2.4L supercharged V8 producing 500hp and 300lb-ft of tq. In today's edition, I will be highlighting UK based Caterham Cars and the Seven series lineup. For this showcase I won’t focus on one specific Seven model, but more the model range as a group as the 170 – 400 models can all can be built as kits. Most might first assume that Caterham only builds fully assembled factory cars, but you are wrong. While not as well advertised they do offer a self-build DIY option on most of their models when you configure a car from them at no extra cost aside from delivery. Caterham since 1973 has built cars modeled after Series 3 Lotus Seven designed by famed British automotive designer and founder of Lotus, Colin Chapman . The Seven price ranges from $36,094 - $70,955 USD or 1.3 – 2.6 #Bitcoin respectively as of writing.
In keeping with the Lotus philosophy of “less is more” and focusing on the driving experience, as the driver knows best. The Seven is made to be as lightweight as possible with the Seven coming in at only 1,202lbs. So this means with engines ranging from a Suzuki 660cc Turbocharged I3 producing 84hp or a 2.0L Ford Duratec I4 out of a Ford Fiesta producing up to 310hp, causes the Seven to have a power-to-weight ratio between 170bhp-per-tonne to 508bhp-per-tonne. In practice, this makes the Seven blisteringly fast with 0-60 on the low end being 6.9 sec and on the high end being 2.79 sec. The Seven has always been renowned for it’s handling. With it’s Blistein suspension, the Seven can take any windy country back road or S curve on the track you can throw at it.
