They are certainly partial, to the court and thus the State. They use contempt as a means of exerting authority, simply as a means of retaining it. Courts are literally a theater and a case will or will not go to trial depending ultimately on whether it will be a dramatically convincing show to the jurors and the public or not, if not they will push for deals or dropping them, if so the show goes on and now the mission is narrative control by manipulating the public mind into perceiving the judiciary as heros and protectors. You're right, a human who has lived life and taken in experiences cannot possibly remain impartial, its impossible.

I think the appeal lies mainly in the convenience but it is a better alternative than storing your credentials on a companies server.

Absolutely, they get paid and paid well wether they make bad policies or not. They have immunitys, especially Judges,which are all but untouchable , which are ultimately the most important figures in American authority. Not to mention our adversarial system has created a punishment within the process.
