First bought #Bitcoin 5 years ago. Brain still FUDs me from time to time.

Bitcoin is the hill worth dying on. Even if it failed we’d be right to support the Network for its inbuilt properties eg trust-less / permission-less / decentralized / immutable / debasement-proof

Damus keep crashing. Do I have too many relays or something? Doesn’t seem like anyone else has this issue

Damus crashes occasionally for me but it’s not an everyday thing. I’m a 7 relay guy.

The insanity of it baffles me.

Almost every person I know irl will routinely say things like “they need to…” or “they should…” and I realized a few years ago they are completely trained to believe that an omnipotent force known as “they” can solve problems by making decrees.

I can’t unsee this and I’m quick to point out “who is they?” and the reality that laws and regulations and rules all have massive negative unintended (and intended) externalities.

It’s crazy to watch their brains bog down and malfunction when I point out how deeply they’ve been programmed by the state and that the state making decrees isn’t the end all be all to humanities issues.

The average person’s mind is completely brainwashed and devoid of reason or independent thought… they are subjects and that’s it. They seem comfortable there, sadly.

Decrees are bullshit and create more problems than they solve, every time.

People need to learn on their own from reasoning, observation, role models, and from experience. The drugs are out there. The weapons are out there. The bad decisions can always be made or not. The individual needs to navigate the world for themselves and figure it all out - there is no other way.

My 8th grade science teacher taught me the most important lesson I've ever learned: If you're doing something wrong, don't draw attention to yourself. It's not about getting away with breaking the rules. It's about presenting yourself in a way that only attracts the attention you want to get.

It's essentially the dark forest theory. By announcing your presence in a dark forest, you attract anything in your vicinity to interact with you, and if you can't defend yourself, you will be devoured.

It's the same on Nostr. By designing for self-sovereignty at the key-pair level, you allow each participant to project power on every other participant on an even playing field. And announcing your presence invites anyone who notices you to interact with you based on how you present yourself on your profile and in your notes.

You DO have power over what people send to you by building a profile that invites the kind of engagement you want to receive. If you do whatever you want without considering that, you're going to get engagement you don't like. Monsters exist in the forest, and you cannot reason with them.

I don't know... too many imagine how can anarchism replace our huge countries and their governments. An anarchist society is a little larger than a tribe. The question stops being how do you defend from the United States of America and rather how do you defend this anarchist neighbourhood.

Anarchist societies could be quite large (think city-states with millions of residents or large rural counties) and private defense is a cornerstone of the anarchist structure. Private defense contractors are very effective, much more than police today.
