No, they are free. Notes sent to these relays are retransmitted to other ones. They amplify your reach
Wallet of Satoshi, it always work. I leave the bulk of my sats on Breeze, but I transfer to WoS when needed

1/3 of my relays are paid now. A few free relays are great, though. Specifically:
- nostr.oxtr.dev
- nos.lol
- sg.qemura.xyz
- relay.nostrgraph.net (broadcasts to other relays)
- nostr.relayer.se (broadcasts to other relays)
Yep. That's full government control/social credit score system. A few countries already have that level of control without CBDCs, though, like Sweden. Everything you do is tied to a national ID (which is shared with banks, the socialised health system, etc.)

It's annoying as I have sats locked on BlueWallet too. Not many, though. The bulk of it is on Breez or WoS
Yep, good point. But perhaps in the future, some of the paid relays will also broadcast content to free relays. This should solve the 'write' reason
I'll keep adding paid relays, but I plan to keep at least 2 or 3 popular free ones. To be able to find new interesting users/read their notes

Relays are like simple servers. You connect to them with your favourite client and they retransmit your posts (called notes) to other users who are connected to them too
