No there is no point in adding it. Also nothing was started here. There was a mistake in the code since the very first commit (guess insignificant enough that nobody cared so far). ONE single app has used it afaik, which was updated. There was already a change for this which will be in the next release.

The entire point of a spec is that you don't keep changing it in backward-incompatible ways.

The proper procedure would be to propose it to the spec and allow the community to debate such an addition.

Alby has started to return a {created: true} object from webln.enable() calls, which is not in the spec (the spec says to return an empty Promise).

Now some websites are relying on that {created: true} object being present and assuming webln doesn't exist otherwise, which makes it so they won't work on any other extension or environment that correctly implements the webln standard but not the "Alby standard".

In this case it might be a silly example, but this is how protocols die.

if a non sovereign client or tool accrues significant market share they could potentially use their control over users to influence the greater network or bifuricate it

nostr is permissionless and we cannot stop people from shipping whatever tools they want but it highlights the importance of rapid development of freedom focused foss clients and tools

this is my main focus, supporting the individuals building out the freedom tech tools we sorely need, momentum is strong, incredibly hopeful, we must continue to push forward 🫡
