Just spit balling, no idea if feasible, but if delegated keys are deterministic, could the key with the highest index number supercede all previous delegated keys as *the* current, active, valid key?

Agree, may not make sense for everyone. But for the more paranoid or for people with a large "brand" to maintain, additional precautions are reasonable. Out here there are no god-mods to step in and delete posts, recover exclusive account access, block other access, etc. etc.
