@Molecule_dao @jsshdsn How do you see this contributing to licensing university’s IP (which I understand is the largest problem)?
"[A] Normal organism is the nexus of a large number of interacting forces that are individually weak. [An] organism perturbed strongly by a single causal deviation is an abnormal organism" Lewontin was amazing! This applies to so many areas. #Science #biodiversity #technology

#Biodiversity (#richness and #abundance of #species) generates the diversity of BIOMES and ECOSYSTEMS that contribute to the maintenance of LIFE as we know it. #science #business #biotechnology
#Biodiversity CONSERVATION is the REASON and the PURPOSE of any #ecosystem monitoring program. It INTEGRATES the impacts of #land_use, #competitive_exclusion and #pollution. And measures the benefits of PREVENTION, RECOVER and MITIGATION actions. #science #business #biotechnology

Is there a bad #science? If I ever thought that every science could be valid, reading Ioannidis changed this. It was a shock to realize that there are several misplaced incentives that makes science bad! And a pleasure to meet him during my @EF_Fellows https://t.co/tsmUnE6cxv
@michaelshermer has a 📙 on how people create intelligent justifications for irrational/emotional choices. Here @chrislarsensf simply cannot imagine that other people can have different priorities than his (climate). Mine’d be to end poverty https://t.co/tcgCp8rKw8 w/ @APompliano

This is exactly what me and Mark Hsieh talked about on ATHPodcast S01E25: “the same people sign one agreement on Climate COP and an opposite agreement afterwards” https://t.co/XQbNLHlPje
“The same constellation of banks has originated more than $1.3 trillion of green bonds and loans to support climate-friendly projects over the same period. No bank has done less than Wells Fargo, which has arranged the lowest proportion of green financing relative to fossil fuel”
When the INCENTIVES are in your pocket, it’s much harder the put your MONEY where your MOUNTH is. Banks are financing +2-FOLD more #FossilFuel than #LowCarbon projects.👇 We may argue the need for FF (I 💭 we still do), but agree it’s hypocritical! https://t.co/cVQDYm2tN9
“Since the clinching of the Paris Agreement, the global banking sector has underwritten more than $3.6 trillion of bonds and loans for the fossil-fuel industry. No bank has done more—or taken more in fees—than JPMorgan Chase in the past five-plus years.”

#METABARCODING and #environmental #DNA may (will) change that, but haven’t yet.
And skewed towards CHARISMATIC fauna, geographic LOCATION, SIZE, climate, #research INSTITUTION and taxonomic interest. #biodiversity #science

@amrdavila That is because SAMPLING is a big, big challenge. It is very difficult to sample many SPECIES that we know, but even more difficult to sample what we don’t know. 🤷 So our #biodiversity inventory suffers from availability BIAS.
There is #scientific EVIDENCE to support that the number of SPECIES on the PLANET is anywhere from 5 to 100 million. Which means, in my #scientific opinion, that we scientifically DON’T KNOW! #science #biodiversity

Fossil record shows that 99.9999% of species that ever existed are extinct (Margalef, 1989). For a species, extinction is as certain as death is for an organism. #biodiversity #science
