Metals v1.5.0 is here with a fix! The problematic feature pausing compilation on window unfocus has been removed, resolving an issue where compilation randomly stops 👍 #scala http://scalameta.org/metals/blog/2025/01/22/strontium/

Scala 3.6.3 is here! 🎉 Features a backported profile trace compiler option for better build performance analysis. #scala https://www.scala-lang.org/news/3.6.3/
Want to see a magic trick? ✨ Drop support for Scala 2.12. Suddenly, all those developers pushing for upgrades have the leverage they need. Businesses understand "end of life" better than anything. #scala https://github.com/typelevel/cats-effect/discussions/4241
Functional programming and databases share a deep connection: set theory, referential transparency, composition... Starting to see the beautiful symmetry? ❤️ #fp #databases #sql https://youtu.be/6szdySvorzA
Hey Jakub, do you know about the Stream Deck, right? 😀 Anyway, that was a great real-world demonstration of building a Scala Native program with generated C bindings, but more importantly how Nix fits into all this ♻️ #scala #nix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=old8N9u3QKU
So, was there really no binary compatibility even between patch versions back in the Scala <= 2.7 days? 🤯 That sounds... challenging 👀 #scala https://youtu.be/SJxEXAkxD3I
Another cool Scala 3-only library, this time a zero-dependency database client. I'm not a fan of annotations, but I'm happy to see another library going with a plain SQL approach instead of ORM. #scala #database #postgres https://github.com/AugustNagro/magnum
In my opinion, Scala should be moving towards a clearer, more unified syntax, as demonstrated by improvements to implicits and underscore usage.
Introducing [] for collection literals, when those symbols are already fundamental to the type system, seems to me a violation of this principle. I believe it's a step backward, it adds unnecessary ambiguity to the syntax. #scala

Something's boiling in the depths of the Cats Effect codebase... and it's HUGE!🔥 Get a sneak peek and prep your brain as the first release candidate is out already! #scala #catseffect https://youtu.be/PLApcas04V0
How is it possible that Scala 3 can depend on Scala 2.13 artifacts and vice versa? It's a pretty cool solution to be honest. 👏 (The video is a bit old, but still relevant!) #scala https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQmVrUdx8TU
Don't underestimate how garbage collection works. It's a crucial part of many programming languages.☝️ https://mill-build.org/blog/6-garbage-collector-perf.html #jvm #performance
It's fascinating to see FP goodness creeping into traditionally imperative/OO languages like C++. Iterable std::optional in C++26 is a prime example. Soon we'll be currying functions while manually managing memory! 🤣 #functionalprogramming #cpp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRJ71mTwB1Y
Native Gnome GUIs with Scala Native. Just wow! 🤯 #scala https://github.com/indoorvivants/scala-native-gtk-bindings
Just discovered a new giter8 template for Tyrian + Flowbite. Perfect for quickly spinning up a type-safe, front-end project. 👾 #scala3 #tyrian #elm #flowbite https://github.com/linux-root/tyrian-flowbite.g8
Last year was packed with new experiences and challenges. Here are some of the highlights that stand out:
- 👨💻 Began sharing my passion for tech by re-posting insightful articles and videos to spread knowledge and spark conversations
- ⌨️ Learned Vim motions and switched to columnar keyboard. I wish I'd done this ages ago - it's a game-changer, trust me!
- ☕️ Survived 10 months without caffeine, allowing me to sleep 30 minutes less and feel more refreshed and focused!
- ✈️ Created unforgettable memories with my son during our first-ever airplane vacations
- 🎹 Started messing around on the accordion. It's harder than it looks!
- 📚 Read 8 books
- 🏃 Ran, 🚶 walked and 🏔️ hiked 1000 km
- 💪 Spent 100+ hours on various activities like 🏋️ weight lifting and 🧗 climbing
My son's second birthday this summer opens up a whole new world of possibilities - like finally taking him camping in the mountains and sleeping under the stars together! ✨

My prediction: 2025 sees a major jump in Scala 3 migrations from Scala 2. The cumulative impact of the new features is just too good to ignore.☝️ #scala3 #prediction https://blog.jetbrains.com/scala/2024/12/20/the-intellij-scala-plugin-in-2024/
TL;DR You don't need to upgrade to Scala 3 immediately, as maintenance of Scala 2 will continue "indefinitely". My suggestion: if you are already on 2.13, invest your time to upgrade – it's worth it! #scala3 https://www.scala-lang.org/development/
Resharing as there are not that many Elm job offers 🔥 #elm

Not sure why the sound quality isn't better, especially since @makingthematrix.github.io obviously used an external microphone and a pop filter... Anyway, this video is a great introduction if you want to start programming in Scala with IntelliJ IDEA by your side 👇 https://youtu.be/cj3HFctzYm8
