I think a lot of people forget the Internet would not exist if there were no telephones (dial up or am I too old now? xD), for years it used that infrastructure until it became a viable/widespread business capable of spending on better dedicated infrastructure.

we went from internet being a place where people would mostly remain anonymous while share knowledge and experiences, to companies charging subscriptions for "verification" while mostly allowing fake & hate content. maybe I'm old but the internet wasn't worse 10-20y ago, it was better.
