Russia is the richest country in the world. It has maybe quadrillions of dollars of resources. Russia needs nobody else's resources. Russia straddles 11 timezones and is the pivot of Mackinder's World Heartland theory. Without controlling Russia you cannot control the world. Russia gets invaded or provoked into war at least every 100 years by people wanting to steal its resources and gain its strategic position. America has 700 military bases around the world, most are surrounding Russia. Russia has one foreign military base, in Syria. A bankrupt west needs assets for the bombed out balance sheets. Russia has the assets.
