That’s precisely my use case! It can also do a lot of niceties like proxy fetching external media for you

If we want to onboard the global south to nostr we can’t ask them to download GBs of data over spotty/expensive networks on a daily basis

Yeah, precisely. I’ve been using nostr on the go in Thailand and Vietnam in the past few months and it eats up my data allowance 😔

Privacy tip for nostr:

If you want your notes to reach many relays, but you don't want to reveal your IP address to all of them, then connect to a proxy relay instead.

This way only the proxy will learn your IP address, but your note still reaches all known relays with only a minor latency.

Blastr is a free and open rust code to run such a relay as a cloudflare worker by #[0] & #[1]. https://github.com/MutinyWallet/blastr

To configure it, simply add the nostr.mutinywallet.com relay to your nostr client, and configure it to only upload, not download notes. Then disable upload for all other relays.

Write a new note, and see in a third party client if that note shows up. If yes, you can rest assured that many may read your notes, but only a few learn your IP address.

If you use a VPN or Tor ontop, then even the mutiny wallet and cloudflare server do not learn your IP.

I’m working on a proper nostr proxy to unify all event publishing and fetching as well as relay traversal (intelligently fetch missing events)

MIT-licensed and easy to self-host.

Do you think you’d use it or do you prefer this approach, #[3] ?

wait, you still think nostr is about social networks?

marketing judo: use the opponent’s ad dollars to decentralize the internet

The increasingly delusional, sad and absurd Bitcoin Cult, loves to put exotic people on a pedestal simply because they look different, have names that are unfamiliar to them and live in places they’ve never visited but seem edgy. They ask these people, who are totally clueless, to opine about “adoption” and other things that they know nothing about, simply be cause they live somewhere.

This is like asking people from Canada about the years Niagra froze and how much ice is stored up when it freezes, as If because they’re Canadians, OF COURSE they are going to know this.

Once again, this is a way to feel “involved” in something whilst not doing anything, not informing anyone, not dealing with facts, not addressing the very real and very interesting problems facing different exotic countries, failing to get anyone to talk to who actually knows something, who is in authority or is working directly to fix problems in Bitcoin, rather than being an exotic spectator.

Some people are beginning to wake up to the illusions of the Bitcoin Cult and are actively looking for people who are doing things to midwife change, rather than go along with the Cult’s fascination with the latest talking head who can’t code, can’t think, offers nothing, offers lies, or wants to destroy.

It is a great relief and source of profound reassurance that these people have NO INFLUENCE on ANYTHING outside the Bitcoin Cult. This leaves many open goals for those who have real goals to achieve. The entire world is, for want of a better phrase, un-Bitcoined. It is clear that the Bitcoin Cult will not ever move the needle, and is in fact terrified of its own shadow to such an extent that they’re paralyzed and unable to help anyone, lest they break OPSEC.

This means that the first people who act like neurotypical human beings will be able to explode on the market with services that will literally chang the world in a very short amount of time, showing up the last ten years as almost totally wasted.

Part of the problem appears to be the substitution of follower counts for real achievement; a false proxy for touching people and measuring success. The Bitcoin Cult is trapped in a closed, self referential world where it can have no impact on normal people; exactly the constituency that will cause Bitcoin to change the world.

In order to reach the normal people, all mention, vestige, concept, strategy, graphic device and gesture of The Bitcoin Cult must be abandoned for a new language to convey “Why Bitcoin?”. Professionals are hard at work at this now, and I can assure you that it will work.

Anyone who is interested in making Bitcoin the default money of the internet (at a minimum) is interested in results, not Virtue Signaling or fawning over the latest character to emerge from the background noise. They’re not writing a children’s book, starting yet another “Podcast” or doing any of the things that have been done over the last ten years that have been proven not to work to get billions of people on to Bitcoin.

They’re not voting on features, adding more features and are MOST CERTAINLY not doing ANYTHING REMOTELY LIKE “ORDINALS”, which, if they were not a secret disruption program launched by the State, might well as be such, since it is disrupting Bitcoin.

Why am I saying all of this? To try and peel off the few who can think a little, and who actually want to see Bitcoin succeed. Who are not frightened of their own shadows, desperate to Virtue Signal, are not Mind Blind, who understand why Bitcoin was written, and who can muster a thought or two and then execute on them.

These happy few are not frightened of setting goals for themselves, measuring whether or not their thinking was correct, and maybe even profiting from their efforts. They’re not child like in their approach, understand the gravity of the problem and, yet are not daunted, are unfazed and say, “Bring it on”.

Keep the tags imo;

clients should have an easy way to ignore p tags that tag a no-notifications-from-this event.

Just did my largest zap to date.

This way of interacting with content is not just better, it's an entirely different paradigm.
