Insights on dual citizenship, passports, freedom, and sovereignty. Lawyer at Malakouti Law.

Technically, Vanuatu citizenship by investment may be faster but their program has serious issues at the moment, plus loss of schengen visa-free access.

I’m not recommending Vanuatu for my clients at the moment unless they’re of a nationality prohibited elsewhere (like Russians or my fellow Iranians).

Fastest at the moment would be St. Kitts which has *guaranteed* decision within 60 days of application submission. The automatic expedited processing is only good until June 30th (their program special).

Total price for a single applicant is about $140k “all in” so to speak.

*Very rough price ranges for different kinds of citizenship (including attorney fee and costs) for my firm. 👇

Variability within the range depends on a) country, and b) case difficulty/work quantity).

1. Citizenship by investment. ($120k-$900k)

2. Citizenship by descent ($6k-12k)

3. Citizenship by naturalization after period of residency ($5k-$10k)

Initial consultation: $250, to screen you for options, explain the process, timeline, costs and most importantly, any problematic case issues (if present) and your chances of success.

Note: some citizenship by descent cases take more work and additional fee just to SCREEN for eligibility, given their complexity and that oftentimes several ancestral documents must be obtained even to determine eligibility.

If your case is outside of my wheelhouse, I try to refer to a trusted colleague who specializes in what you need. If I don’t have a trusted colleague that handles your need, I say so. 👍

There’s a bit of ambiguity there but I’m hoping to take over the hashtag so it clearly refers to geographic mobility. 😄

I’m using #mobilitynostr as my hashtag for all posts related to:

- dual citizenship

- freedom of movement

- immigration

- foreign residency, and

- geographic self sovereignty.

Feel free to do the same, anon.

Are you still subject to U.S. law as an American dual citizen OUTSIDE the United States?

You’re doing sit-ups between coinjoins,

I’m requesting 110 year old naturalization petitions requests to NARA to get my clients evidence for European citizenship by descent applications.

We’re not the same! 😄

If you ever learn one ancient language to be able to read badass texts in their original, which will it be?

Some candidates:

- Latin

- Ancient Greek

- Hebrew

- Aramaic

- Sanskrit

- Akkadian

- Avestan

- Median

- Sumerian

I think if it ever happens for me, it’ll be Latin or Avestan.

A good heuristic I’ve noticed is that if you hear someone say or write “collecting passports” to refer to applying for 2nd or 3rd citizenship, you’re probably listening to a travel writer or influencer.

In other words, someone who’s NOT an expert in the business of…getting people 2nd and 3rd citizenship.

We don’t talk like that because experts know passport ≠ citizenship.

A passport is a travel document that’s usually (but not always) proof of citizenship. Huge difference. Not semantic.

Citizenship is what we get people and it comes with a whole lot more legal rights and obligations than just a travel document.

Conflation of passport and citizenship is like a big red siren over someone’s head saying “I only understand this stuff superficially, if at all.”

That’s fine for newbies learning about #selfsovereignty but not fine for people trying to hold themselves out as experts or citizenship “consultants.”

There’s such an astounding amount of BS propounded by travel influencers larping as citizenship experts that I may have to start taking videos one by one and breaking down all the false info to set viewers straight.

I get that we’d all like self sovereignty and multiple citizenship to appear simple and attainable but the reality is this stuff gets complicated.

If I can do it without coming across as mean-spirited, I’ll probably start.

Can you use regular copies or vital documents when applying for second citizenship?

Not all rights of entry to a country are created equally.

Strength of right of entry and right of residency hierarchy, generally:

1. Citizenship

2. Permanent residency

3. Temporary residency (usually including digital nomad visas where they exist)

4. Tourist visa

5. Visa waiver (visa-free agreement)
