so my goal with sup. is to make a federated snapchat/whatsapp that is compatible with most platforms.
This was originally going to be a Pixelfed specific Messenger-like app, but then it hit me - this is a perfect opportunity to create a sub project that could be eventually handed over to a trusted org.
sup. is an open source encrypted fediverse instant messenger, similar to whatsapp, made by pixelfed.
The beta will be launching later this month, and btw most fediverse accounts will work, not just Pixelfed 😉

Pixelfed Stories are the most complicated production ActivityPub activity, and also the only one that uses bearcaps!
With the AR filters extension, there are now half a dozen Story related activities/side effects.
I'm working on the documentation and love the challenge, I brought Stories to the fediverse and I'm sure other platforms will follow 😉

The AR filters stuff is only for creating Stories, and you will be able to completely hide Stories so you'll never have to see them or their side effects!
Trust me, we have a lot of really exciting features that I think you'll love!
Why do all the reddit alternatives look ugly, except for kbin?
Lemmy is almost as old as Pixelfed but it's still hella complicated UX wise.
I think kbin could become the major contender once the dev can focus on that again.
Compared to lemmy, kbin is much easier to use IMO and it's so much newer and only developed by a single person, I have high hopes for it!
