ive made a small performance change to how the user rooms are retrieved on the home page.. it _might_ help this issue, but i suspect it may be a latency issue between peers

Further discovery has identified a bug that may be related to this that can consistently cause the symptom you've been experiencing. I'm working on a writing a patch and testing to mitigate.

a patch for the aforementioned bug has been applied to the server. hope this prevents the issue from resurfacing
