Ubuntu is a shitcoin, dunno why everyone uses it as 'default Linux', change my mind;

Fedora, Debain or Alpine are the three to go for from shiny-newness to most boring and stable.

Honourable mention for FreeBSD as the so-stable-you-turn-it-on-and-it's-still-running-four-years-later option.

Lmao No arguments here. Debian for me.

Snaps suck, everyone else uses Flatpack. Upstart was a waste of time, everyone else uses SystemD or init.d. Unity was a waste of time, everyone else uses Gnome/KDE. Mir was a waste of time, everyone else was using Wayland; etc. etc. No idea what Juju is but probably also a waste of time.

I ran Fedora for many, many moons. Even back when it was called Fedora Core 🥹

Fedora Core 6 ftw

Fedora Silverblue is also a pretty cool project, if you can put up with its compromises https://fedoraproject.org/atomic-desktops/silverblue/

1 year ago I tried to get into Linux, I shit you not I spent 3 weeks trying to install Ubuntu and failing because I had a Nvidia graphics card and my cpu didn't have on board graphics, ended up buying a new CPU just to install Ubuntu then realised I could have just installed fedora 😂😂😂😂

Ubuntu sucks ass, yes I was allowing proprietary drivers, I spent 3 weeks trying every workaround known to man, nothing worked.

had the same problem except with radeon graphics, a brand new one

zorin OS is built off ubuntu and they make the same mistake of having the FUCKING METAPACKAGE kernel

the usb of their installer was the first one i tried that when i show the system settings it was running the GPU, not CPU rendered or some other nonsense

ubuntu kernel policies suck a giant fat donkey dick

one key thing, you find a USB installer that is based on ubuntu, and the live settings info page says the GPU is recognised, unplug the network, before you install

then, after that, remove the linux-blablabla-generic package after it boots, that bitch pulls in new versions that will break your install and give you black screen pain

this!!!!

Ubuntu works when it works, but if you poke it the wrong way wow does it break completely 😂

I'll give them credit only for being fairly good by comparison to other distros for graphics card support (sometimes) and working on AI/ML things; but that's often because those things are so poorly written that they basically assume Ubuntu and don't work properly on other distros
