Before going horizontal...

I'd like to send my old Nikon FM10 to Japan for maintenance care; I don't really know how could that work. But I'm imagining sending it to a photography lover as well, particularly for film photography; I can't find good help in my home country (🇲🇽 ); but I'm pretty confident nostr can help arrange a good alternative to make it happen; maybe connect from some photographers from there 🫶. Thanks! (Tagging nostr:npub1e4qg56wvd3ehegd8dm7rlgj8cm998myq0ah8e9t5zeqkg7t7s93q750p76 as is the only nostriche follow I have that I know lives in Japan, sorry to bother! )

Have you looked into any camera repair shops in the US, like in California or Texas? I’d imagine it would be less expensive than shipping it to and from Japan.

I contacted Nikon in Japan and they said they couldn't help me directly.

We are very sorry, but we cannot request repairs from overseas or ship repaired items overseas. The repair services provided by our company are for customers who live or stay in Japan only, and are only available in Japan. In addition, for FM10, the repair service period has already ended and there is no stock of repair repair parts, so unfortunately we do not accept repairs. We sincerely apologize for not being able to help you with your inquiry, but we ask for your understanding.

Thanks so much for the help! I was imagining the camera was old enough as for receiving maintenance from official Nikon company; nothing to blame to them.

Still, it might be my bet to wish in a nearer future film photography will be popular again! 😄

Nice to meet you.

I use an old PENTAX MX, not a Nikon FM.

The PENTAX MX is a camera manufactured over 40 years ago, and cannot be repaired by current PENTAX.

Therefore, I follow the X account of a workshop that repairs such old cameras.

If there is a problem with my PENTAX MX BODY, I will ask one of them to repair it.

From the contents of their regular posts, I judge that they are reliable and skilled craftsmen.

They rely on broken camera bodies distributed in Japan to procure parts. Therefore, repair costs tend to be high.

If you want to ask them to do the work, you can contact them.

I don't know if they take on work from overseas, but I will introduce their x.com account.

Nice to meet you; thank you so much for the help!

That workshop could be just what I was looking for 👀

I'm going to check their X profile (now I found a good reason to log back to that app XD)
