Yes. It’s sandboxed. So, users have to run

$ sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Applications/gossip.app

and it should work

I'd feel safer if gossip ran in a sandbox. Do you know why it can't run in a sandbox? Do you know why it says "Gossip is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Bin."?

I don’t have an M1/2 Mac, which I suspect is the issue in my case.

I believe it’s due to apple licensing terms. That includes any application that doesn’t have an approved signature by them.
