I haven't been bothered like this in a long time. Sorry if this random outburst of IPFS "hate" comes a little out of nowhere but it isn't foundationless. fiatjaf wrote an article about IPFS' shortcomings a good while ago, and I kept it in the back of my mind. And now, when I needed it the most, it broke again. This is so annoying that I just can't do better but be mad. :/

I don’t understand why people still bother with IPFS, it blows my mind 🐶🐾🤯

It seems like the potential is there with proper integration to a decent gui?

The whole architecture of it is flawed, I don’t see it, sorry. 🐶🐾🫡

Noted, about the architecture, I claim to know, and actually know practically nothing.

The principal of shared, distributed hosting of files across many nodes is a good idea in general. But, IPFS' implementation of it is quite flawed. So, people like me are sold on the idea initially, and it's basic functions are easy to use. But the more I used it, the more I found it's flaws and problems. I even went on to read about i2p's torrenting setup (they have a whole documentation about it here https://geti2p.net/en/docs/applications/bittorrent ) to look for "a better way".

I think it's the case of: It looks shiny on the outside, but the more you dig down, the more dirt you find. At least, this was - or, more specifically "is" - my experience, and probably others' too.
