Admittedly, I don't post much video content to Nostr... but I kind of assumed if you're already doing editing, etc, shouldn't you have the ability to upload a "down sampled" version?

Is the issue here that legacy platforms will allow you to upload the full-res, and then the user gets to select the resolution they want (or need) at the time of playing the video?

Standard practice and advice everywhere except nostr is to edit and upload at as high quality as possible BECAUSE those platforms/services will the compress it and you’ll lose some quality. It’s counterintuitive to ask users/artists to compress their videos first before uploading.

I have been compressing my own videos for Nostr, it definitely hurts the quality but upload size is much smaller. It would be nice if some of the apps would do it for me upon upload.

I do it too. But it’s not good UX and it’s not what other platforms do, and therefore it makes that part of nostr feel broken for most people.

Absolutely 💯

And the content suffers.

The video is pixelated.

Or I find myself making

Videos far shorter than I had intended.

Would hosting options have to store several versions then at different resolutions?
