Or consider this.

Anyone who wants to send zaps creates a new user id and gives it a wallet connect. They run a little background app on their desktop machin, or a personal raspberry pi, or a friends computer, or a tiny imgage on amazon. This little app listens on specific relays and waits for incoming DMs from the user that instruct it to send a zap. No custodial risk. The little app should be open source and reviewed by nostrites who can affirm that it does not leak anything.

Now phone apps users can simply send messages (DM or plain text) "Hey @mini-me-xxx, zap #[1] 1,000,000 sats"

I'm sure someone has thought of this before.

There is a thing that does this! It zaps anything you like for you.. let me check my bookmarks to see if I have it still

Dang.. I don’t have it saved.. I’ve read something about this somewhere.. it seems like a great solution, though it’ll still be above most people’s abilities

This also may have been what I was thinking of

We were discussing a scenario like this earlier. The tech savvy community will do it. The average person who doesn't run a node will not. It's a nice workaround though.

Lots of people run nodes without knowing it. These are just little apps that get fired up by your laptop or desktop at bootup and just happily sit there quietly running. All you need is a simple installer with a wizard. Most people would be able to do that -- especially if they wanted to participate in the zappiverse.

That's a fair point. What I meant to say is they if it's a complicated workaround, your average person won't do it. A lot of the people that run nodes now would do this, but I can't see anyone going out of their way to do it. I could be wrong. People surprise us all of the time.
