There's a mystique, I think... Lots of people "want to believe" in Elon. I think there's some self-projection there too.

He hits a combination of factors of the "American iconoclast" archetype that appeals to many of the people who support him. Tall, white, (artificially) full head of hair, (steroid) barrel chest... He's nerdy and awkward but still (allegedly) fucks....

But like a fading rock star, eventually he won't be able to hit the high notes anymore, and concert goers will start asking for their money back. Late Elvis (fat Elvis) still drew crowds because, hey, it's Elvis...
