Recently checked my following for dead npubs. With 1,000 accounts followed at that time only 180 were removed. Yes, that's 18% but for only one year that's not bad. 82% of the accounts I've followed over that period of time are still active. #grownostr!

I need to do this again. Did you do it manually or use a tool?
I used nostr:npub1lqs30x7466guvx6r2cek8z9d4hpucycy7j08wx58cwx70m206q3qrscejr's tool. Live is too short (and nostr to slow) to scroll +1,000 npubs ๐
I had a LOT of inactive. I was due for a spring cleanup ๐งน
Me too. Moving on to figure out how to fix my mute list because it's completely broken.
Roughly half of my list was inactives. And I was following lots of npubs ๐ฌ
I did a mute list cleanup a month or two ago. It really helped with performance (I think)
oh wow that's a lot of dead birds!
Problem with my mute list is that it doesn't seem to actually store the mutes anymore. I noticed it a couple of weeks ago when the same airdrop scam and a random supremacist kept reappearing and now again with Cyborg, the GPT bot, reappearing in chat on Zapstream every time someone mentions fun or joke in chat. I can mute those accounts over and over (on zapstream, nostrudel or Amethyst) and they just keep coming back.
I don't get it
#smij wonders if they had gotten #zapd more, would retention be higher? not implying you don't #zap enough, just generally speaking.
Perhaps but if money was their main incentive to use nostr then their absence isn't a loss.
